Oh I know ladies..I have been very remiss with my blogging....my machine decided to give me grief and I have just spent 2 weeks sewing ,,,,,reverse sewing.....ugh...finally I think my machine is good...poor thing..it sure does do a lot of work..so I have to be reasonable..but the rep told me that they are only made to last 5 years!!!!!! for $2000 really? wow..remember when you used to buy a machine and it lasted forever??? my little janome has been my saviour these past two weeks..and it is 25 years old!!! A lot to be said for "old things" lol.....
For those of you that frequent my blog...you will remember when I made this tractor quilt...and I have just finished it..working on the instructions now..I think its cute and great for the little or big boy....

I decided yesterday I would love to try something new..so I had my first attempt at thread painting...very basic,,but I am happy for a a first attempt...of course i have lots and lots to learn....????

Butterscotch and Roses..I love this fabric and wanted so badly to make something...so a friend told me of an easy pattern to make in an afternoon..well................to say it was a saga..is an understatement!!!!!!! I did this pattern..but I cannot bear 2 of the same colours together...just me? am sure there are plenty out there like me..so I took it all apart and redid it to suit myself..and am very happy with the outcome....what is the verdict..? of course binding to go on yet..such gorgeous fabrics...

Tomorrow we have a Marlene King workshop..so we are looking forward to that...will be posting some pics and I know we will have a lot of fun...Marlene is great..relaxed and nice day for all usually...

Full Swing Back to It!

The new year is back in full swing for most of us....quite busy already! Hope this means it is going to be a great year!! We had a great Christmas and New Year..how about you????
Because I had 10 days off over Christmas Break, I decided I should catch up on some quilting of quilts that had been around for ages...All to no avail....:( I simply cannot get the tension right on my machine, i have struggled for hours and hours..so now the technician is picking it up as I type..so off to Sewing machine hospital for the old girl...very frustrating though..to have time and then machine stops working correctly...

What I DID succeed in though, was to clean up my sewing room..every time i would try to find a piece of fabric the whole lot would disperse onto the floor!!!!!!! After purchasing 19 plastic tubs..my cupboards are sooooo organised now...so happy with that.

after.....
Ray and I have also been busy in the garden, and are very happy with the garlic harvest.

So, on to class lists..and updating the website.. I hope it is all going great for the beginning of the year!!!!

Another year is ending and 2012 is about to begin!. The years are flying by...well for me they seem to get faster every year...We have had a great year in 2011, this business (as in any) has many ups and downs..should you stay? should you go? its never easy..especially with my ill health the past few months...but I love my job..the friends I have made, and I am now feeling so much better , feeling very well...and looking forward to 2012!
I wish everyone a happy healthy and safe New Year...and I want to say thank you to all my supporters..it means a great deal!

Hi all,
wow, how could I get used to this not working caper???????? man, is so nice to pop in and visit ppl at my leisure..I am having such a fun week!! We had a great xmas get together with family..alas my daughter had to go home on Tuesday.....:(

seems I am the only one in my family cant get a decent hair cut!!!!!! lol
I received some beautiful gifts from my family..and of course another year older yesterday so had a fun afternoon with my friends with the awesome weather we are having at present.
I received sooooooooo many choccies.....dont these ppl realise I am FAT!! rofl...they are nice though....this is only Half of them!!! Guess where the rest are??? lol

I can show you now what I made all the girls that support Calico Crossroads for Chrissy..I think they were happy and very useful...great little serviette holder..and they dont blow away in the wind!

just wanted to let you know that The Village Sampler is now blogging!! Early days, but it is a gorgeous little store in Lilydale Tasmania, and Deb will do all she can to help you. Deb specialises in McKenna Ryan designs, BOMs and other. and to be honest..Deb is one of the best needleturn applique artists will ever see!! So please make her feel welcome to blogland and pop over and say hi...

Merry Christmas to All!

Christmas is upon us!! Yay!! My daughter is home from mainland Australia, and both my children will be down to stay with us this evening in readiness for "SANTA" lol they are 24 and 28!!!
Its great though..we love it..I dont quite get the same rush as I did when i used to wake them up at 5.30am to open santa pressies...I am not game enough to wake them until 8.30am rofl...!!!
I have been busy this week making table runners for some friends and family...I sure hope they like them..

Sue, my co worker...is also a florist..so when she works at her REAL job..haha she does beautiful arranging like this! She made this for the Thursday girls to appreciate..its lovely!

Sarah and Razzy came to visit yesterday, and Sarah had made this retreat Seat for me...isnt it awesome! It is a design by Natalie Ross, and I love it!!Thank you so much Sarah...

I will be taking a break until 3rd of Jan, when the shop will reopen..although I will still do online.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all my customers..both online and instore..plus friends and family, a safe and happy Christmas and a very happy and healthy new year!!!

Last Tuesday "In Stitches" Quilters had the annual Christmas dinner..so I am going to share with you the ladies that share my shop with me!!!! We had a lovely meal and a fun night...

They ordered a book online for me, and it didnt come..so on the night of the dinner I got this!!!! So funny.....

But then the real book showed up during the week...and I was very happy...they know I like to explore australia...how good are they???? Thank you so much ladies.

My dog and shop mate Bonnie, had her cruciate Ligament op on Wednesday..she is so sorry and sore for herself..she had been quite good..but today she is pretty miserable..think it has all caught up with her...hate to see her like this, but hopefully she will be mending well over the next few weeks and back to her old self..sure hope so...

My friend Rosanne, or RAZZY to a lot of you bloggers came to visit with me on Friday...look what she bought me! Isnt it just the cutest little ornie !!! I have to confess it did have a choccie spoon in it..but when I got home and was looking for it..ummmmmm it had melted everywhere down into the ornie.......hahah...all good razzy, it came up a treat with a little wash!!! (just a bit sorry I didnt get to eat my choccie spoon!!) lol I love it Razzy, thank you so much!

I cant show you just yet what I made for the girls as a couple have not yet recieved theirs...they seemed to like them..so I was happy!
I have spent the weekend cleaning my sewing room......omg...how does one make such a mess...will share pics later...ugh...looking good but better get back to it!!!

Just 2 weeks to go! I hope all are organised and ready for the big day? I love it..the hype, the "busyness" (hmmm not a word I am sure) the hustle and bustle..

Recently arrived instore, are these animal print fabrics...priced at $19.95 per metre, they could be just what you are looking for, for the african quilt? or childs alphabet quilt? Another recent addition to the fabric range is this polyester fabric, you could use it for large pillows, or sofa throws, and priced at $28.95 per metre is a bargain! Not to mention it feels gorgeous...is very soft and very very tactile.

We went up to the mountains again this weekend...I just love it up there! (I may have mentioned this before..lol) So just a couple of pics to share our high country with you all. I sewed all weekend, but sorry, cant share with you just yet...shhhh its a secret?

So much to do...dinners, last minute shopping, cooking...etc..I hope you are all managing ok, and not too stressed..remember, Christmas will happen whether you are ready or not..so just enjoy..Have a great week!

Yesterday was the Tasmanian Quilting Guild Christmas Dinner...110 ladies rocked up, all with stitchery in hand and baubles of all kinds to decorate their table. A lovley day was had by all...with gift exchanges..(secret Santa), loads of food..goodie bags, shopping, and show and tell.

This is my secret santa gift, and I could not be happier...its a small diary for my bag and a larger 2012 diary..what a GREAT pressie, very very happy with it! Thank you secret Santa...(if you want to fess up I am good with that!) :P

The monthly Exeter Market was on today, I bought myself present...what do you think of my button necklace? lol I also bought some zip tag earrings..lol

The countdown is on for Chrissy..how is everyone coping? not too stressed? done the shopping? I have my parents to buy for..its very difficult....Have a great week!

Can someone please stop the world!! I want to get off!!! Or at least slow it down a little..would be nice...how come the older one gets the busier one gets?? Well December is here..how great is that..don't you just love this time of year?? I love love love it!
Here I am posting about LAST weekend and this weekend is here already...hahah
Ray, Myself and Helen and Ross last weekend went to the Central Highlands to the shack..On Friday evening it was just gorgeous but Sat it rained ALL day! One good thing about the shack, you get an enforced rest!!They were playing cards at 7.30am..!!!!!
Here are a couple of pics of the Central Highlands and Some "aussie bush" for my international followers...hope you enjoy them.

This is older, but I have loads of new followers so here is my gift to my father in law a few years ago...he loves it and it hangs proudly in the shack. Funny story goes with this...as I was putting the REAL fly hook onto the quilt, it got stuck (dont ask?) lol in my boob..right thru my shirt, and ...ouchies......Well, the first person to come into the shop, was my friend Jack..who is Gay..and Jack..well...you shoulda seen his hands shaking as he was trying to "UNSTICK" me from the hook!! He was like.."ummmm, you know I dont go HERE dont you..." hahahha
Short version but we still laugh about it today....lol...very very funny.

And finally, I would like to share with you Gail Pan's latest quilt Homecoming Lane,
which I will be doing as a block of the month as of next week! I don't have costings just yet as i have been flat out getting ready for guild tomorrow..but I will share again with you next week and if you are interested let me know..I love this!

How exciting...today I was the Winner..yes WINNER of the West Tamar Photography Competition!!! The above photo was the winner!!! I also had my pic of the kookaburras in the top 15 which is also exciting...
I won $500!!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooooo, I spent the rest of the day looking to see what I could buy? now....my purchases for the day were as follows...
1 x $12 watch for work...
1 x $12 onion keeper...hahahha
I know, I know......I am very fortunate and have most of what I need..however, I am thinking we should buy an outdoor setting..so think I will contribute to that..funny thing is...I thought the kookas were better..goes to show that I have no idea..the deputy mayor asked me quote "how long have you been a professional photographer" bahhhh haaa..I was like ummmm not..but how nice that they like my pic that much.Oh yeah and there was more than one pic in the comp..:)
That was my little surpise and I am very happy...still on cloud nine..(doesnt take much) Hope you like it too?

Because I have been so lax..I haven't taken any photos this week..Well, not strictly true, I have some new lens that I am trying out..and um....not exactly good just yet...wont happen overnight, but will happen I hope..In looking at my photos, I realised I havent shown these yet..from our Hagly Camp...so thought I would share them with you...

I should be going to the Quilt Market this weekend, however, because it is a great weekend to go to our shack in the Central Highlands, the choice was easy...cant wait!! sometimes you have to make choices...I really am going to miss catching up with everyone though...Have fun all you girls off to the market!!!

Today I ordered Lynette Andersons IN FULL BLOOM fabric range...oh so excited!!! I love them!! Hope they come in soon????

I do have some other exciting news to share..but I am not allowed for two more days..exciting for me..maybe not anyone else..stay tuned, I can tell you on wednesday evening...:)

What a wonderful day we had today...I wasn't going to post until later..but I DO want to share with you some photos of ladies quilts..I have asked their permission to show them..so I hope you enjoy..I cant believe we have been open for 7 years to be honest..the time has just flown..as it does when you are having fun they say!!!
We had a record day at the shop..loads of lovely visitors from interstate as well as local ladies..I want to say a huge thank you to all the helpers of the day...namely Joy, Karen, Vicki, Susan, Jeanette, Sandy, Evelyn, who all worked sooooooo hard to make our day a successful one..thank you all..and anyone I have forgotten thanks to you too.....
Oh, and the quilt show that was organised by LeaH and myself..raised $550 for Standby...so thank you Leah...for the idea and the help..We did good!!! lol go team!

You all have probably already read about our wonderful weekend at Hagley Farm School with Lizzie and Lilly Pilly...but I have to share my pics and fun stuff too...we had a most relaxing wonderful weekend, just catching up, and sewing, and eating, and sleeping..rofl..and walking, (and I fitted in bike ride)..it was great.The shame is that we rarely get together, as we are all so busy, but the up side is that when we do..we have a ball!!
I am still working on Remember When, (still) and finished a couple of blocks of that..plus I completed a horse quilt I started a year ago..Lots of stitching was achieved..boy is that lizzie a bizzie girl..lol
On Saturday, Leanne, Jo and I went to the Deloraine Craft Fair, and had some retail therapy, then up to my parents to check out their garage sale and a cuppa!
Here is Jo and Leanne, picking up some bargains at the fair.

The other pics are just a reminder of what a beautiful place we live in...the weather was gorgeous the whole weekend...and although I have lived here almost all of my life..I still am in awe on some days!

I will post some other shots later..I need to ask the girls permission first..lol..well I better, or they mayshoot me..and yes we did some sewing..really...we did......a lot.......Dont you just love quilty weekends with wonderful ppl....?? I sure do..thanks girls!!!!

Tasmanian Warratah...
Remember some time ago, I posted a raw edge applique dog I had sewn? well I decided last weekend he needed to have a place somewhere in this world rather than in the suitcase of unfinished items...sooooo..here he is..all done and proudly looking after my quilting magazines as I travel to and fro the shop!!

On Monday, the "Monday Girls" and I set off early for Erriba, to deliver quilts we had made to Appin Hall. It was a gorgeous day, and I was very much looking forward to it..the girls and I laughed and giggled all the way..on the way up we came across this little tacker..(should have put her in the back) aint she cute?

We stopped off at Sheffield to have some lunch and a spot of retail therapy at Slaters Country Store..We must have done well as the store owner made comment about his holiday he could now have ...hahah....did we spend that much?? nahhhhh surely not!
Sheffield is known as the town of Murals, and although there are many, i thought I would share just one...hope you enjoy it!

After lunch up to Erriba we went..and what a beautiful spot Appin Hall is in...it is gorgeous. Please visit here..to read about Maggie and Ronnie Burns' Wonderful work ..they are amazing ppl who do an amazing job..and we need more like them!! They are a valuable asset to this state, and we are only too happy to do what we can to help them...Maggie was a gem, and made us a great cuppa, and then we had a walk to see what they are doing. If you are local here in Tassie, and would like to help or donate, please visit here..The children can take home a quilt and for some it is a treasure ....Thank you Ronnie and Maggie, for the day and all your wonderful work!!!!

On the way UP and DOWN, we couldnt help but be reminded of the most beautiful state in which we live...what beautful scenery..and of course great time of year to appreciate it.

Oh yeah,,and did I mention we are off to quilt camp for 3 days??? how could I forget?? lol..I have packed more in my case than i did for my USA visit..keep ya posted on that one all..Have a great weekend..we will!!!

October is almost over! wow...is it just me? I can't seem to keep up with the world!!
This week the theme for My Place and Yours is Where I sleep! hahah...
Although far from glamourous...I do love to sleep here pic number 1..under my most favourite quilt ever!!

Of course sometimes...(if ray snores too much) lol I sleep here...Pic number 2.

Or if you come to visit me anytime after 4.30 on a weekday, you most likely will find me asleep here....Pic no 3.

On my wonderful recliner,,which i love almost more than ANYTHING...lol..is my new aboriginal quilt i mentioned in a previous post..have half the binding to go then it is done..yeppers..I actually have finished something!!!

Oddities!

I have heaps to share with you all this week..lol..so although it may seem like a jumble..I know it makes perfect sense to me...or does it??hmmmmm

First, I have to share with you this gorgeous little grebe family that are making a nest on my dam...We have never had these before..and the work they put into that nest? My word they work so hard..I first thought it was just junk floating on the water, but it is in fact their nest..I have been sneaking up every day to try to get a great shot..but they are ON TO ME!! I am loving watching them every day..hope they get to progress to a family...Will keep you posted...

I have just finished a quilt top..and dying to show it to you, however, I will do it justice and finish it totally before sharing..its my first aboriginal quilt top and I LOVE it..think I am hooked!!Watch this space..lol
Over the past few weeks I have had a lot of time to learn a little more on my camera..this is playing with manual focus..I am pretty happy with that..

And finally, this new product is worth sharing with you all..Batting Seam Tape. so instead of trying to sew those bitzy batting pieces together..now you just use this tape and iron them together in half the time...Visit the notions sections of my shop...it is $12.95 pack.

I fear in my bragging the other day...I spoke too soon...I went to see the doc on Monday, 8th? and he put me straight in hospital...on the spot!!!! I havent moved since!! Grrr..how frustrating it is..Because I seem to have had some difficulty breathing since my surgery they are doing further tests to investigate..but man...sure does slow me up..I was without the shop for 6 weeks while on holiday and only back for a bout 2 weeks..now 2 weeks away again!!! so frustrating...Anyway that said, I should have some answers next week, and hoping they will all be good ones...I actually am not that sick..just get puffed out too easily...(this is making me tired) rofl...so we will see..hence I really don't have any quilty projects as promised..I am sorry about that..but I have finished another block of my Remember When BOM..so its not all bad news!!! lol And you know what...I will have time to sit back , relax and finally catch up on everyone elses' blogs..yayyyyyy seeee, it gets better all the time...lol
Calico Crossroads is 7 real soon, and so I will have some news re our birthday party coming up in the next couple of blogs...

Back to it!

Well hi all, I apologize for my tardiness with updating my blog.....I now have had my trip and the last (I hope) of my surgeries, and so now can get on with my work! The poor store has suffered a little over the past 8 weeks, and so has my blog and my FB page..However, that is now to be remedied!! I am back!!! hahahhahha
I actually never realised just how many ppl read my little blurb, until now..when I am receiving emails and customers are asking where I am? how nice is that?
I have some things to share with you all...first up, some more of my trip? ..hahh well some did ask!! The pic is in Chatanooga, where we went to Ruby Falls, you go up a mountain, then into an elevator which takes you 1120ft underground, you walk approx half a mile thru a cave and then in front of you is a 140ft underground waterfall!!!It was just amazing...

Three weeks ago, I took my parents out for lunch..can you believe this is the first time EVER that I have shouted my folks lunch!!! Only because I paid the bill in secret...they objected...but hey felt good for me...lol..the pic is at Villarette Gardens at Kimberley..just beautiful..and my dad and I!

The following table runners have a funny story...On Friday, i bought some of the new DEB STRAIN Natures Gift Christmas Fabric home with me to make a runner for the shop....its soooo gorgeous...on Saturday, I took it in to the shop and before I got it out of the bag.Sue, who works with me, said..oh look hope you didnt mind but I took some fabric home and made a runner......!!!!!!!hahahahhahahahahha THATS why we get along!!!Both look great though, do you agree?

Last but surely not least, I have to share this most beautiful bunch of waratahs that my friend Karen gave me last week to welcome me back to the shop!!! Thank you Karen, they are the most beautiful ones I have EVER EVER seen!!

I wont over load you girls..just letting you know I am back, and look forward to "getting on with it" lol

BACK HOME!!!

To all my loyal blog watchers...I am home!!! What a great time was had by us...we came home so relaxed we felt like gumby!! lol..
So now back to it! In a nutshell, we flew to Dallas, then on to Houston, visited some dear friends, then flew Tampa and then to West Palm Beach Florida...visited some friends, then boarded ship to Bahamas!! wow! how gorgeous and what a week!
Back to Florida, then up the coast, St Augustine, Savannah, then up to Charlotte, before hitting the Smokey Mountains, NC. From there, Bristol Nascar Race, which to be honest was the highlight!!!!Amazing 4 days, then down to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, up to Nashville and back to Dallas...Bored yet? lol...AMAZING trip!
I visited a few quilt stores on our visit..and I loved them, but I figured ours is just as good as any we visited, although Tennessee Quilts in Jonesborough was awesome!!!
I walked into my store on Monday, and it was clean, neat, and tidy..looked great..so proud of Gertie and Sue, I am so lucky to have such great friends...they did a wonderful job!! Thanks ladies..it means a lot!

Holiday time for me!!!

Yay..its time for my holiday.......woo hoo..cant wait...tomorrow Ray and I are headed to USA for our first holiday together!!! yep...together!!! he has been before..I have been several times before..but this one is together!!
I am hoping we can update photos and tales of our travels..to entertain you all in my absence. hahah...
The store will be still open, leaving it in the hands of Sue, and Gertie..both of whom will look after you to the best of their abilities I have no doubt..however, I will be closed on Sundays and Mondays until the 12th Sept..

Our monday girls had a go at confetti quilting a couple of weeks ago...was it a success? well that is debatable..we laughed until we cried..some gave up..some really worked well..and the butterfly...well.....our fay did she whinge and moan and complain and look a the beautiful cushion she made???
Thought I would share with you this pic of the avenue of trees..I planted all of these..is so satisfying to walk up thru them! love them

Winter? Spring?

I think mother nature is playing tricks....lol...the daffodils are out..the ranunculus are out (how DO you spell that..) but it has been SOOOOOOOO cold down here in Tassie. brrrrrrr...the little dam is frozen over...the gates and posts are all cold, cold..and the days are dreary..cold..and damp..I am off next week to sun and heat..bring it on I say!

This poor lil fella has been visiting us for a week...he lives near our house..unfortunately I am sure he is blind, AND deaf and I think is suffering mange..so sad to to a native animal sick..mind you nothing wrong with his appetite..but he just potters in our yard from 4pm onwards..so you know..best leave him be..will ring wildlife again this week...keep you posted.

I have a group of "monday girls" come in to the shop...On mondays can you believe???
We have a bunch of fun and it always is a nice relaxed and fun day...we have been making charity quilts for APPIN HALL.. please visit site to get aquainted. We have loads of laughs and I told them if they made them I would quilt them...so we have I think 8 now to take up in sept...well done girls.......

Sometimes I wonder....is it just me that likes OLD STUFF? It's not like I don't have enough craft "STUFF" around..I have to always gather up all this old "stuff" as well!!! I am but my father's daughter..we both love antique or vintage..(prolly more vintage) because mostly there is no value in our items...we just love them..

Periodically, I have a clean out , and rid my rooms of old "stuff" but some things I just cant throw away...of course , you realise my dad is responsible..rofl...Love you dad!!!
Maybe I am in the wrong business...??? antique shop??? could do..junk shop??? really could do..lol
I have to share with you this gorgeous old sewing box my dad found for me at auction...it was filled to the brim with old buttons, tape measures, and crotchet hooks etc, I have moved some buttons to my most treasured old button tins...(yep...another collection)
From sewing machines,(way too many in fact) to depression glass..from thimbles to mincers..I have it all!!!
Not for any reason mind you..just have it!!
Hope you love my little sewing box..I do? Do any of you collect "stuff"?

Ladies...I am sooooo excited...look what mr delivery man bought for me today!!!! Yep,,,Lynette Anderson's Scandinavian Christmas Fabric!!!! It is gorgeous!! I have taken heaps of piccies for you...my co worker Sue and I played with it all day!!
The pattern for Scandinavian Christmas BOM will be in on Monday, and also patterns for Snowball fun Quilt..but seeing just the fabrics......oh wow!! It is a large range of sensational reds, greys, taupes...ohhhhhh I am overwhelmed..it is just great! Priced at $21.95 per metre..so many possibilities!! I seem to be having a problem getting ladies involved..I would love to have a nice group of squares from tassie to be included in the quilt. If you are at all interested, please email me, and I will give you the details or you may go to the link on the sidebar and have a look. I can lend anyone the suitcase..and the journal to fill in at any time..so please dont be shy..you wont be responsible for returning it..just give it back to me..come on tassie girls...its just a 10" block!!

"THE TRAVELLING FRIENDSHIP QUILT PROJECT”

Eight suitcases (one for each state) head off for a one year journey within the state, at the end of 2010 to be passed from friend to friend, group to group, each adding a 10 1/2 inch square "quilt as you go" style - finished 10 inch square (using either their local area or a friendship theme) arriving back in Maleny, Queensland by the end of September 2011 for blocks to be assembled and added to a large centrepiece, which includes a map of Australia, showing all the towns that participate.... we will then photograph the quilt as a whole, and sections of the quilt will be printed into cards, calendars, diaries etc. for sale to aid such charities as UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women) but other charities can be included (such as breast cancer, something close to all of us) The completed quilt can also be available, by request to be featured in any upcoming quilting events (2012) and then offered to a suitable cultural institution (museum or art gallery) providing a snap shot of life in 2011 for future generations to enjoy.

George Town Frienship Day

Boy am I pooped!! what a day!! up at the crack of dawn (couldnt sleep) and was in George Town at almost 7.30am!!!!! what?????? so I toddled down to the riverfront thinking it might be nice to take some pics..I found a seal!!!!! a Very busy seal!!! So busy in fact he was too fast for me to take a pic of him..he was filling him tummy with salmon...they were everywhere..jumping out of the water!!!! Where was my rod??? I wanted to stay..but had the friendship day to attend..and what a day it was!!
Approx 120 ladies descended on the hall from 10am on..and it was go go go all day..
I love catching up with them all..had lots of laughs..and jokes and saw some beautiful quilts...I cant share too many as I have not asked the ladies permission yet..as soon as I have it I will share with you. So for now you will have to just see my little elusive friend the seal..some scenery and a pic of the ladies having a ball...
thank you ladies...it is STILL one of the best quilty days in the state..!! Well done!!

I would also like to ask any American ladies that may visit.if they have any tips on shops to visit in the Georgia, WV, TN, TX, Florida, Alabama? areas..as I am visiting in a couple of months and love any advice..there are soooo many on the net..lol

A long weekend here in Tassie has bought sunshine, but cold mornings..brrrrrr..I actually dont mind the frosts if we have a nice sunny day following, mind you the shop can get a little chilly before the heater kicks in....

Last week, my friend Marlene came for a casual visit and we made these journal covers...what a great day we had..relaxed fun, happy and we just love our covers..thanks so much Marlene..we had a blast!! Below is mine, however, not quite finished yet..

I have been busy working on UFOs over the past couple of weekends...all these tops laying all over the place were driving me crazy!! So this weekend I finished the binding on Roses, which is a flannel quilt and have just the binding to put on the boys car quilt..so nice to finish things..I do believe that I have but ONE ,,yes..ONE ufo left..not counting what I am working on of course...I am a legend!!!! ROFL

Biggest Morning Tea! and More!

Wow! wow! wow! You guys are amazing! Our target for this year was $400...but thanks to the generosity of everyone, online and off..we have reached almost $700!!!!! Can you believe that??? We still have a week to go to raise some funds so I reckon $700+ will be the final tally...I am so thrilled...Thank you so much to the ladies of In Stitches for their cooking, and helping, and our trade table, and to mum and dad for their help as well!! Days like this make it all worthwhile don't they?

We are sure getting some frosty mornings here now..so thought I might share some of them with you guys..(cant have you feeling too warm now can we?) I love them though..great to have a walk in the brisk mornings.

I have been remiss with posting this week I am sorry, but sometimes LIFE just gets too busy..lol..I know it happens to all of us!!!

Last but not least..guess what? This is post number 200!!! Another milestone....now..I have just realised this..so being as I am at home..I have no idea what my giveaway will be as yet...lol...its a surprise...(even to me) lol..

Another weekend bites the dust!!

Another weekend been and gone..amazing!! where does the time go?????
For those of you that have been following my blog, you will have seen the brown quilt before.....about 2years ago!!!!!! well guess what??? FINISHED!!!! AH Rome wasnt built in a day they say..lol

This is a new quilt I have called "My Tractor", kits will be available online by the end of May..I hope you like it..its a great boys quilt..and we all know they love their tractors!!! Kits will be $100

I want to thank the ladies that have donated to my morning tea online...I am a quarter of the way there already!!! thank you Chantelle, Val, Pam and Karin...I really appreciate it..Ppl are more than welcome to donate online..I am very excited..we have a huge list of names for the actual morning tea..thanks all..I am sure I am going to well and truly surpass my goal...

Our latest Block of the Month is from Libby Richardson and is called Snuggle Bugs. This is so special, this quilt..it would suit a child from birth to at least 10! Each little bug has a gorgeous expression..and it is one of my favourite quilts this year..
Priced at $30 per month or $300 for the kit..it will be availabe with my next BOM mailouts at the beginning of June. Email if you are interested please..
We have used Nancy Halverson fabrics in this quilt, which are as bright and cheery as each little insect and bug..
I apologize for picture quality, I have not quilted it yet..and the top moved in the wind..I will attempt another tomorrow but was so excited to show you all!!!

I hope everyone had a most wonderful mothers day..as I did...the weather was great..the family were happy...ahhhhhh cant get better.....!!! Bit difficult to fit them all in the picture!! I am now the proud owner of a Vidal Sasson Ultimate Salon Hair Dryer..thanks Rissa and Mitch..I love it!!

Off the the Mole Creek pub for a great lunch, and afterwards, I visited some of my favourite parts of the area...sooooo nice...

You can tell it was a beautiful day!!!

Today, I have been married for 25 years...!!! to a wonderful man..mushy yes..but why not..both of us have earned the right to be mushy I reckon!!! the only down side is.....25 years...25 kilos!!!!!!!!! OUCH!!! Look what I got!!!

We have had a quiet day..me working and Ray had to go to Hobart..so we are apart for this momentous occasion..however..we will make up for it on our first honeymoon in August when we go to the USA Together!!! I have been four times..ray once..but never together....hmmmmmm wonder if thats why we are still happy????.......guess we will find out in August..????

I have quite a few pics on this post..but i have resized them so I hope its not too painful for you all.

A few weeks ago, we had a Suzie McMahon Workshop, making Zozie dolls..My friend Pam, from Burnie, visited me on Friday with her extras zozies she has made, I wanted to share them with you.
The wall hanging is also Pam's and she does some awesome textile art, so I thought I would share this as well..Well done Pam,,they look great!

This weekend we had our Craft Fair..I had a BALL yesterday..seeing everyone, and shopping and was VERY EXCITED when I found a gadget for the handle of my happy jak quilting frame to regulate the speed of my sewing machine..wowww....I purchased mine 5 years ago..so didn't know about it..Made my day it did...have not tried it yet..The quilts were absolutely beautiful...am I envious???? you bet!!! ahhhhh one day.....
The quilts are a couple of my completed Easter Projects..so proud of myself for actually achieving a couple of finished......yipppeeeeeeeee.......just think, if I had 4 days off every week what I could achieve..lol

Leaves are changing fast now..with winter approaching, I love this time of year..thought I would pop that one in too!! Oh and plenty of cockies around too...so he gets a showing as well!!

My Island Home

This is the Beaconsfield Mine
I cannot remember when I last had 4 leisurely days off! No work, no stress..and such beautiful weather..I have had the most wonderful weekend..On Friday and Saturday I sewed..(like a mad woman..) and finished 3 ufos..I had actually made the tops and sold all the fabrics before I had completed them so..of course there is always another one more important to do..but being my father's daughter, I dont like waste..lol..so I decided this weekend they get finished!! I will be sewing the bindings on while I watch the footy this afternoon..yay...go bombers!!! oh I digress....lol

Yesterday, I had lunch with my family at Beauty Point, a most beautiful part of our valley...the weather was superb...and everyone was enjoying boating, canoeing and fishing.. Made me glad to be alive..had the most fantastic day!!!
I thought I would share with you some photos I took of the river, and surrounds..hope you enjoy them

Morning Tea

As before mentioned, we had a morning tea for one of "US" last Saturday morning at the shop..Enid and her husband are heading home to the UK to live..we will be so sorry to see her friendly face go...:( tis the best for them, so we wish them all the very best! We shall miss you Enid!!!! We all made a small heart block, and presented to Enid at morning tea..

The bag belongs to Enid..she made it in class..love the colours..but then these are my most fav fabrics ever from Judie Rothermel..yummm

I need to put my thinking cap on, I am just 10 posts away from having a giveaway..cant believe I have posted almost 200!! wow..time flies...thinking , thinking,......:)shhhh secret squirrel..

I want to share with you all our new designs from Bronwyn Hayes of Red Brolly Designs instore..the purses are so cute, and are $20 pattern or $35 pattern and handle kit...
and the stitchers mat..is soooo cute, what a great little gift..I will be able to do a kit soon on this one, as the red dot wont be in store until end of april..sorry ladies.

Weekend is here!

Hi Ladies..well here it is Friday yet again!!! Where is the year going? I have to admit, this week has been a little more laid back than last week..whew..thank goodness!!..
Thought I would share with you an update of the BBQ (swimming pool) lol area..as you can see there has been some progress made, just need for it to stop raining for a while so the paving and bagging can happen...Sure is making a mess with all the gravel tramping inside the house..very grateful for tiles at the moment, thats for sure.

I am in need of some help too ladies..I am in need of one metre of the above fabric..don't suppose anyone could help me out with this..??? I am using in a bom and just one metre short..

Also thought I would like to share some of my thimble collection from my travels..mainly to the USA of course!!! I have more..but wont bore you all in one blog..I might even share my collection of old singer sewing machines if there is any interest?? let me know if you would like me to share, and I will work on that.

The new bag is Meadow..by Melly and Me..this is a great roomy bag for casual day trips..so easy to make too!! Pattern available instore.

Tomorrow, we are having a goodbye morning tea here at the shop for Enid, who has been a wonderful addition to our Monday and Thursday groups..Enid and her Husband Terry are moving back to England..and we will her terribly..she is such a positive, warm and caring person...I will post some pics hopefully..

I haven't managed any sewing this week bar a small stitchery for my Remember When, busy busy..I think I DO procrastinate too much sometimes though...actually, I know I do.........Well, bit of a mixed post..have a wonderful weekend all..and happy stitching..

what a week!!!!!!!!!

wow..what a week I have just had....amazing!!!...as you all would have read , I won the competition on Sunrise to attend Kochie's Business Boot Camp for 2 days..
After running around like a chook with my head cut off..lol...i managed to get the car loaded and trundled off to Hobart...3 hours later..I arrived at the airport..with out a stop..thought ,,I going to miss the plane..i going to miss the plane....lol
...but on plane..and was on the way..arrived at hotel at 10.30 tired..oh so tired..
not to mention nervous as....well, dont know why..i had the most incredible 2 days of lectures, talks, and learning...loved it..? who woulda thunk? Me? listening and actually enjoying business talk??? lol..
Now to put some of it into action...I realise that they were all very rich ppl that were doing the talks, but the principles of business are the same I am sure..whether it be a micro business like mine or a multi million dollar business? arent they? lol And for those interested..yes I did get to meet Kochie..only Briefly..but I did...and wasnt game enough to ask for a pic..everyone was doing that ..and it didnt seem right..lol

Then after those great two days..flew into Hobart Friday night..and yesterday, had a wonderful day at the Easter Friendship day in Brighton...
Think you ladies might just know the two girls in the pic? lol...sure ya do..its miss Fee and miss Jo...
back at work today...ahhhhhh only the quick or the dead they say....

New Project

What a week!!! On Monday we had our continuing workshop for our bags..bit of a disaster that one!!! but that said..we did have a lot of laughs!! Pics to come in a couple of weeks when the girls have finished the up...ahhhh some things are easy..some things are a challenge...
Now, something that WASN'T a challenge is this gorgeous little sewing machine apron from Clares Craftroom..what a great gift for someone or why not make it for you!! Is such a easy project, its great for beginners, but its so practical too!!
Available in store for $14.00 the pattern..$25 the kit plus p&h...

My big news for the week is this.....A couple of weeks ago I entered a Sunrise competition ..had to say in 25 words or less, why I would like to attend David Koch Business Boot Camp!! Yayyyy..I won!!!

What a great couple of days it should be...I get to fly up tonight...and fly back Friday night..herein lies the "need for speed"...I was happy just trundling along thinking I had 4 days to get myself ready for the big friendship day in Hobart on Saturday..now I have but 1!!! Fly back into Hobart 8pm on Friday..so will drive down today..and catch the plane from there..I still have to go down..so a couple of days early wont hurt???? Talk about frantic..hahah As my husband says.."you work well under pressure" or my mother says
"you don't work well under pressure" hmmmmm wonder who is right..guess we will find out on Saturday won't we?? I am looking forward to going to this and hopefully will learn something...so will let you know Late in the week girls..wish me luck!!!!!!

Last weekend, we had a "Zozie" doll workshop at the shop...fun day had by all...but then thats why we have them!! lol..Some ppl like these dolls, some don't...I love them..but thats cause i like weird things..rofl..Bit like sculptured dolls really..they dont appeal to all..Sure are fun to make though!!
Susie McMahon teaches in the USA each year...and so how lucky are we that she lives so near here..I have wanted to do this since I opened..(over six years ago!) it took me that long!!! Never said I didn't procrastinate...lol..MIGHT show my doll off one day....:) she is not finished yet though.

I could not show my little swap gift from Jo..I had posted some stuff back home from Tamworth and they took sooooooo long to get here...anyway have it now..so just want to thank Jo again for the gifty..I love it..

Had our first frost this morning.....brrrrrrrr..bit sad to think summer is over already..seems like we never really had summer at all....hmmmm maybe we didnt???

Bit of an update on the backyard (barbi) area..at least it is dry!!! back wall is under construction..soooo bring it on!! No Pain No Gain..( says me who is doing NOTHING) lol

I received in store today 4 boxes of new fabrics....yay...says me...boo says bank account..haha..oh they are beautiful.. ...I have them ready..and hopefully will put them up tomorrow...(if I don't procrastinate) :P

what a fantastic weekend we all had up at Nundle with Kerry..and Anni Downs..wow..
I am sure you have read and read all about it with the other girls..but it truly was fun..and great to meet all my fellow bloggers..Chooky..you are a blast...not big on the production dept though..hahahahahahah...one little teeny weeny little project???? Its the talking you know...slows one up!! Ha Ha
Peg and Gai and Dale, thanks for babysitting me on Sunday..was lovely getting to know you better..and the cassette tape singing was awesome..just dont give up the day jobs!!!
To all the other girls..(too many to name..) was lovely to meet you all...and to Kerry..thank you so much for all the hard work and preparation to present such a great time..Lastly thank you to Anni for the taking the time , the patience, and sharing your wonderful designs with us.
It has not stopped raining since I got home...we have been working on putting a bbq area out back..at the critical time..it rains..and rains..and rains...look what we got now!!!
and so much for the tomato free weekend......came home to pick 16+ kilos of tomatoes...more relish? paste? jam? ah buggar it..put em in the freezer,,they can wait!
I have really enjoyed reading everyones blog...am going to read some more now..I have five spare mins..so here I go...

Been so busy with Relish, Sweet Mustard Pickles..Picalilli, Tomato Soup, Tomato paste,, Tomato anything else....so many tomatoes...I gonna have a TOMATO FREE WEEKEND!!!!!!

We are really having a "Red Brolly Moment" here at Calico Crossroads!!..The new designs are so beautiful...we cant resist..more to come at a later date..they are being made as we type..Check out the new designs on the website, due next week.
I love the apron....its so cute and we will have kits available on the website as soon as I can get myself organised....
The hot pads are so gorgeous and a great gift idea...the beauty of them is that they are fully functional..but who would want to make these dirty???? Not me...
The other pic is of my farm the other morning....just a cooler autumn morning and I couldn't resist...

Sleepover Bag

Ok finally finished!!! I had a busy week last week and just couldn't seem to get to finish my Melly and Me Sleepover Bag...I have some girls making this in a class..today we had a blast...
The colours are a little "young" lol for me..but I do know lots like it..Hope you do too...Our steers think it was something from the vegie garden..and they wanted it too!!! A fabulous Cabin bag though...and so strong!! I love it. I have done my impatient usual...and it needs topstitching but can't do that on my big machine..it will happen...hmmmmmmm maybe......Pattern available in my store...here
Another quilt from the weekend was Beryl's African quilt...I love this one too! oh what the heck..I like most of them..lol
I am very excited, not long now until I get to visit Nundle, and Kerry Swain..whoo hoo for Girls Day in The Country...bring it on!!! lol...cant wait..Could NOT believe how expensive it is to fly from Sydney to Tamworth though....whewwwwwww.......ah well..nothing was going to put me off this year..

First question??? Where the devil did summer go...??? Down here in Tassie, we seem to have gone from summer to WINTER!!!! No autumn...ah well..maybe as March goes on it will improve...On the way to the Devon Quilters Friendship Day this morning, there was FROST!! WHAT?

As the day moved on it improved considerably..thank goodness..what a great day was had by all..Lots of ladies, beautiful quilts..laughter and friendship..perfect!
I won't ramble as I have a lot of pics to share with you...do you know..I really must take better pics..I always worry about being in everyones way...:)

Yesterday was our little town's annual show...the sun was out, the sky was clear..the horses were busy on the arena..the holdens were busy doing laps, the quilters were happy displaying their wares....so..thought I would just share some pics with you of our day, without too many words....Oh did I mention it was THE BUSIEST DAY of the year and i was going across the road from my shop..and fell....clean down,,face first.....omg...sooo embarrassment!!!I had one and two dollar coins in an envelope and they went everywhere.!!!! Not too much damage..(except to my pride) lol..skin off knees, and bit here and there..but I am a tad stiff and sore this morning..ah well..gotta laugh......(sorry no pics of that) :P

The theme is Christmas Fun and it will run for 8 months..I have very limited places available..so please email me if you are interested. There will be two choices...you may either just get the Button and FREE pattern, or you can also purchase fabrics to make your blocks as you go..Finished size is 23" x 32"
We could even have a Saturday group for the registered girls and work on our little quilts..??Anyone interested? Cost will be $11 per month, or $15pm with Fabrics plus p&h.

Have to tell you about last weekend...Some lovely ladies from the North West Coast invited me along to their quilting weekend..what fun..the best part was....the weather was awful!!!! We did manage a walk on each day, but the rest of the time we sat, ate, sewed, talked ..oh did I mention we ate??? Was a great fun weekend, and just what I needed..thanks ladies..I consider myself lucky to have new found friendships...

Look what the nice man from the delivery truck bought for me today!!!!! These are just gorgeous.....This is a basics range, and is used frequently in the Vingette Magazine by Leanne Beasley...howwwwwwww sweet is this??? I think although it is a basics range..it is so soft in tones..and the fabric feels beautiful.
Lovely lovely lovely.......to see them is to believe them......

The kits are well on the way for the Homespun BOM..the fabrics are great..and the feedback very strong..This is going to be a great BOM..The designers are awesome and cant wait to start it myself..along with everything else I am working on..lol....
This morning I went for my walk..and on the way home I picked loads of great blackberries..blackberry jam..blackberry tart...blackberry and apple pie..yummmmmmyyyy

I wont be posting for a few days, as I am off to Greens Beach with some of the coast ladies on a camp...cant wait..we leave Friday afternoon..I have to work sunday..so maybe I will have some great pics to share then....

Homespun BOM + Doggie Weekend

Well, what a dog of a weekend I have had....hahah kidding,, I have had a great time sewing up my little friend FRED here...I have wanted to try this for ages, but time is rarely available to do the really fun stuff..I decided this weekend was it!!!! I am so thrilled with the results that I now am going to do one of my two dogs Bonnie and Jilly..hope you like him..I do!!

The gorgeous fabric is Wild Rose by Moda..the fabric used in the New Homespun BOM due to begin in March...I will be cutting kits for this so if you would like one..please let me know via email..I will be substituting some colours though...but only a couple..so really looking forward to this beginning..Anni Downs and the other designers will make this a gorgeous project to do..and the sneak peek in Feb Homespun looks great!!

On my morning walk this morning, I was thinking about you all...I was thinking how much I would love to have shared the beautiful morning with you...it was warm, sunny, and the birds were plentiful...it was like being in a gigantic aviary..but I will share the pics at least..I walked to the river, and back..did not want it to end really...

My Day Off!!

Today I had a day off...what to do??? After doing the housework..Bonnie dog and I headed off to the beach..I have never taken her to the beach ..we are more bush kinda girls..but she had a ball!! Was really funny to watch her with the waves..she is approx 10years old..but she was having fun..we had a big walk..then came home. I tidied my sewing room..(sort of) and then played with one big box full of fabrics...I have seven big plastic containers of fabric at the shop and never ever look at it..some of it is years old..but as those amongst us know..far be it from us to throw away even the teeniest piece of fabric..so I just played while I watched seven days six nights movie..AGAIN..lol
What to do with all this fabric..??? Ah am sure I will figure out something one day..Now...where are the other 6 boxes???????

Almost done, is Badger Cottage, a pencil case and journal cover...design by Lynette Anderson...I think this is gorgeous..I don't know if you can tell I have cheated..haven't quite put all the suffolk puffs on yet..:P but couldn't wait to show this...it is available as a kit for $36.95 or just as a pattern...you can find it in my shop.
I am on a roll this year..really should join a finish of the month group??? Sidelights is a design by Kari Nichols..I have used purple to make it up..I had a dragonfly one, but alas that sold out in 3 days!!!! This is also a kit and is available in the shop.

To all those Victorians, and NSW, and Queensland ppl, you have a long hard battle yet with the fallout from the cylcone and floods..oh my gosh, I can't believe we have cheesed mother nature off so much!!! We wish you well in your clean up efforts..

Today my suitcase arrived!!! Well, not MY suitcase exactly..the Travelling Friendship Quilt Project suitcase..

Quote "An idea that began in early Sept 2010, inspired by the "Rajah Quilt" which was made by convict women on board the ship Rajah as they were being transported from England to Van Diemen's Land, now known as Tasmania.
Blocks and patches created during the voyage were sewn together in Sydney into the quilt we know today..
We believe this to be the first Australia Wide friendship Quilt which we hope will reflect Women's lives in 2011 and become what we believe to be the first National Friendship Quilt. Eight suitcases (one for each state or territory) will begin their journey in Jan 2011 to arrive back in Maleny Qld, towards the end of Sept 2011 to be pieced together.".end quote

This project is going to be loads of fun for all who participate..and what a great way to show life in 2011 in our respective areas.
Anyone is able to "play" I have the suitcase at present..so if you would like to participate and make a block as a group or indeed yourself..please read the above site and let me know so I can pass the suitcase on to you or your group. The case will be returned to me in Sept..in order for me to send to Maleny, Qld.
There is also a beautiful diary..above..in which to place your name, and some dialogue of your area.

We have loads of time ladies..but I would like to know if you are interested at all..of course this is just Tassie, each state has their own suitcase.
Fun! Cant wait to get started!!!

On another note...not all confirmed as yet..but at this stage Calico Crossroads raised a total of $375.00 for the flood relief..thanks heaps to ladies that bid..We appreciate it very much. New Patterns

Thank goodness...summer has arrived! We have been having some wonderful weather down here in Tassie..beautiful days..warm nights..so we tend to spend a lot of time out enjoying it. I did find though..that I was suffering sewing withdrawls.I needed to sew!!! Thank goodness the shop is airconditioned which makes it very pleasant. Of course..I do have a UFO or two..(or ten) but new year..new pattern I figured..

Yesterday I made this new design by Melly and Me..called Sunrise..complete with a wallet..What a lot of fun..I really like this bag..easy to make and looks great..
The other quilt design is by Threadbare Creations...its called Teen Dreams and we love the colours we have chosen, using a Moda Jelly Roll called Happy. Its just a top as yet, but I hope you love it too..Kit is available for $170 inc vlisofix.

I have made my new year resolutions....hrmph..such as they are..wonder how I will go..did any of you ladies make any? I am however, determined to finish some ufos this year..

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone..for popping in saying hi to my blog...also Happy New Year Everyone!!!!
We had an awesome night here..with some friends ...watching the sun set for the final time in 2010.
Only resolution is the same as always..to look after myself more..but I never seem to stick with it!! What are your resolutions? I am going to definatley try to lose some kilos this year..
Have missed stitching over the break, but thats what happens when you are in the midst of summer, bbqs, parties, and christmas, and new year..maybe tomorrow..oh nooooo cant do that...have to cart bales tomorrow..sure was glad it wasnt today??? :P

Weight loss time in the New Year me thinks..Ray and I are going to the USA again in August..so cant have all this excess baggage when we travel..ugh..

Let me begin by saying how blessed I feel to have such wonderful friends...and I truly am...I am constantly amazed at the wonder of the net and how many great ppl I have met over the past 14 years since we have had it.

In the post this week, I recieved this gorgeous little pressie from Miss Fee..of Mothers Cupboard..so sweet of her to make this lavender bag for me..and the stitching..well..lets just say I wont put mine on the same blog..lol..so neat!!!

And today..Sarah made me cry...not an easy feat if you know me..look what she made for me..!!!! AND the shop is Calico Crossroads do you see? Thank you so much Sarah for the time and effort and the great friendship..and using my fav designer to make me something...

Monday Girls

Tranquility Gardens

Wow..where does one start? It has been a busy week for Calico Crossroads..well...busy going out for dinners, having fun, catching up with friends..ahhhh what better things to do..
Last Friday, the "MONDAY" Girls and I went out for lunch at Tranquility Gardens in Legana. What a beautiful place!! Most of us had a burger...classy..but yummy..haha
I have had a wonderful year with the "Monday" Girls..they are fun, relaxed and eager to learn anything new...thanks ladies..we have had a ball!!!

Oh yeah..then on Monday some of the "Monday girls returned..rofl..with wine in hand..and loads of goodies to eat...

Last night we had our "In Stitches" dinner...this is the Tuesday and Thursday girls..
We ate a Suenami..a new restaurant in our area..and it was beautiful..we had a santa swap..and loads of laughs..I love my squirrel Towel I recieved in my Secret Santa...and check out the calculator...hahahahah..the ladies reckon I am always looking for my calc..hmmmm dont think that will be a problem now....do you?

On the business front..business is great..I have added new patterns and new fabrics to the website here so pop over for a peek.

This time of year is just fabulous..you realise how special all your friends are..what friendships mean, and how lucky we are to live where we live..

Workshop Weekend

Yes, I did find my way back..finally...
Last weekend we had a workshop at Calico Crossroads, with Deb Louie..teaching domestic machine quilting. We were lucky enough to have Deb visit last year and very happy to have her return. The ladies were busy busy, and had a big weekend...I am sure they benefited from such a workshop, and will be able to quilt more of their own work now. Thank you Deb..cya next year!!!

It was the Guild Christmas dinner on Saturday also..so whilst I organised the workshop opening, Ray (long suffering dh) opened the shop at Guild. I think he secretly enjoyed being amost all those ladies!!! :) The challenge this year was "Bring A Plate" and the winner was well deserved..made by Alison Howlett from Tangled Web Quilters. Well done Alison..it was just great..very clever indeed. Also a winner, was Karen Stagg with her cake pieces, dont they look amazing..lol..

I hope all you ladies stuck up there in the flooded areas are taking care of you and yours..so sorry to see the huge impact of the floods.

This is Tanya.

For the past 9 months a group of ladies from Hillwood, have been participating in a round robin. They would come into the shop each month..not together of course....and it would be very interesting to see the quilts growing, and what the ladies were doing to them. They all did the block in the middle of their quilts, which was to set the tone for surrounding borders. They had a theme of each round..and some pieces of fabric were put in to be used should they deem it necessary.
Tonight was the unveiling of the quilts..so pop the champers..and away we go!!
What a marvelous group of beautiful quilts...and so very different considering they were under the same guidelines. My apologies for colours..havn't taken inside pics before with my cam...lot to learn there!

Ladies, I think you all did a wonderful job..some lovely work, you should all be very proud of yourselves, and you all have a great friendship quilt to boot..Thank you for the invite..I really enjoyed it as I am sure you will all enjoy your quilts.

On my way out to the car this morning, I noticed the 2 little chaps in my garden..I have so many pics of kookaburras, they are soooo cute..and the other pic is taken at a little church near our quilting camp last weekend.

Today was my day off...NOICE!! After listening to the pouring rain all night, I wondered what I might do..Northern Tasmania is hosting two large craft fairs this weekend..so it was obvious! Off to the fairs..
The Deloraine Craft Fair is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere..and is a fun day out, featuring very clever artisans from all over. The New Zealand Hoffman Challenge quilts were there..some ppl are so clever..and I love the 2011 fabrics, almost bought some, but would I be clever enough to think of something inspirational..nahhhhh.. I may be able to borrow some pics from someone as it was raining so hard I forgot my camera..There are 15 venues, however, because I was soaked after 5 venues, I decided to visit my folks before venturing on to the Truly Tasmanian Fair at Latrobe. It was such fun to finally catch up with these two ladies...

Whew...what a weekend.!!!! Sewing, talking, eating, sewing, talking , eating,,eating,,eating,,think it went something like that!! Hah
We had a ball...what fun. Friday afternoon I was working away..(such as it is) and i had a lovely visit from Fee and Jo..what a surprise!! From the shop we made our way to the camp at Hagley. We did a project, had some laughs..sewed madly...and hit the beds around 11pm which was good.
Saturday, I was up early to make the most of going for a ride on my bike..ON THE FLAT!! miles and miles of flat road..no hills..it was a beautiful morning, and I was out for almost 2 hours!

I wont tell all, as the other ladies will want to blog as well..I am sure..so dont want spoil it. Just want to say girls..I had a blast..am sure you did too..lets do it again next year???

I know, I know...lol..how behind am I? My apologies to all who follow my blog, I havent posted for 3 weeks! Busy Busy.
Posted here is a pic of my new Quilt which I have called "Bring on Summer" as it is nice and bright..not a bit like anything I would normally make, and when the fabric arrived in the box, I was like ohhhhhh myyyyyy did I have a brain fade that day???? But the more I sewed this fabric, the more I actually liked it and in fact now I love it!! Makes you feel like summer is really coming..I have this available through the website for $89.95 the kit. Bonnie likes it too..she is at the shop with me almost every single day, and she NEVER gets on any of the quilts, but she took a shine to this one.

On Saturday I headed up to Burnie to the friendship day..I started early in the day as I wanted to take some pics on the way, which was fun. The quilts being shown above are by Joan, one of my "MONDAY" ladies, she purchased the fabrics from the op shop for $5 and the two quilts on the left plus another were made from that $5!!
What a great day was had by all..thanks for the invite ladies..was a fun outing. Anyone recognise the lady on the mic? LOL

I have been asked to post a note re these needles also..they are applibond needles and are very popular with the ladies who blanket stitch their appliques. They have a tri bayonet cutting edge which pierce through thick layers of fabrics. Those using them, think they are great! A pack of 3 sells for $7.95 and are available through the website.

I promise not to be so lax in future..Am loving my camera, but so much to learn..have to work out some way to actually RETAIN the info I am being given..lol..not so easy for me..:)

The weekend is finally here!!! Kerry Swain from Cottage on the Hill in Nundle NSW, is here to do our annual mystery quilt workshop. The ladies began arriving at 8.30! Talk about keen...No one had to feel guilty as it is a wet day here in northern Tassie, and even though I am being rude and ducking off to do my GRAND FINAL thing..haha they are busily sewing away to their hearts content..The quilts are starting to come together..and the combinations are looking fantastic...will blog tomorrow to show some of the finished results...

Smithton Exhibition

On Thursday night my friend Pauline..yep great name...lol and I set out for Smithton. I was to attend their exhibition and take my store along. Usually one is billeted for such an event, however, we were lucky enough to be offered a house in Stanley..wow..wow..wow...it was the Harbour Masters Cottage..circa 1880...and as you can see, was such a quaint little house and in such a beautiful beautiful location....We attended the exhibition each day 10-4 and each morning we walked around this lovley little town.. On Friday our friend Sandra joined us..fun fun fun..Even though we were working it was like a mini holiday...Thank you so much Smithton ladies..and particularly Elaine and Leo ( who went to the house each day and lit the combustion stove for us.) We had a ball and the quilts were really nice too...(thought I should mention the quilts..lol..I will post some more pics of the quilts during the week..The above quilt is named "William Morris in Chartreuse" and is made using aboriginal prints , a most unusual combination..but its very pretty. Made by Sally Poke.
Now, to let you know who won my mini giveaway....drum roll please.......................and the winner is....WV Hmmgbird...congrats..my name generator...aka RAY...has drawn your name out of the bowl..(we are very high tech here in Exeter) ha ha..

New BOM & Giveaway!

My new Block of the Month is on the way!. I am up to block two..I am a bit slow because I have to confess..I am not much of a hand stitcher..actually not really very good at all..but have decided to take my own advice and just practice..I love this quilt so much I want one for me...so..have to make it myself!!!
Remember When, by Libby Richardson is a 10 month BOM and is made from pretty pinks, creams and many other subtle colours.
9 Blocks depicting life in the slow lane..and remembering how life is meant to be. Blanket stitch, embroidery and piecing make this fun to do and I am loving it. Priced at $32 pick up, or $34.00 with p&h , my colours vary a little from the pictures..but I have done my best to do very similar.

Making Whoopee!!!

Put 21 ladies in one room for 2 days and what do you get???? A whole bunch of fun, laughter and quilting......This past weekend "In Stitches Quilters" had a retreat at Camp Clayton in Ulverstone..wow...what a blast!!!! Arriving at 4pm it was ok quick chuck beds together..lets get quilting!!!!
On Friday night SOME of us sewed until 1.30am...and then talked til almost 3am...I got out of bed at 8am and stone the crows..the girls were already quilting..I had slept iN!!!!!!!! couldnt believe it!! Back at the machine at 8.30 and sewed til 12.30am marathon effort...I have not had such a great time in ages..we laughed..we shared, we sewed..we ate..we ate...we ate....oh sorry, did I already mention that...??? I finished 2 of my ufos..bonus..and some ladies made 4 complete items in that time..believe it! On Saturday it absolutely poured..so that took away any guilt...which was awesome...Girls, it was awesome..and I had just so much fun...cant even say..bring it on next year!!!!!!! Enjoy our pics of our wonderful weekend...

On the way home I called into Deloraine, to see my dad..took some pics of the river in flood...

Fabric Painting!

Today we had a workshop with Cindy Watkins from Deep Peace Studio in Deloraine.
Seven of us had a great time painting fabrics using different techniques, and thank you Cindy for taking the time to visit.
As you can see we all had fun..and I have posted just a couple of my sample pieces for you to see.
My parents and I went driving in the country yesterday, and I took some shots of the landscape..I have a class coming up so will be interesting to see how I improve when I learn how the camera actually works!!! The manual is great..but translating from the book to my brain..well...aint so great...rofl..
I have just two more posts until my 150th..ALREADY!!!..not sure what I will do, but I WIll be up to something for sure...lol..

I have had a fun week playing with my new camera..of course I still have heaps to learn, but sure is fun trying.
I took the photos of the Monday and the Thursday ladies..busy at work..funny thing is..when you approach with a camera they all put heads down!!!! ha ha Dont think they are big on having their photos taken....

I have to show you the new product I have instore...its called Clearly Perfect Angles. I have been making a quilt with half square triangles and this little piece of cling on plastic has been a godsend..It clings to the table of your machine and eliminates the need for any paper or drawn lines on the fabrics..You can see how it works by going to youtube and typing in Clearly Perfect Angles..Magic..Retail is $18.95

Wow...am so excited....look what I bought my little self today...aint she just beautiful??? I am beside myself with excitment...this is my new toy..my lumix camera...so look out girls..pics galore!!! at least I hope..lol have to learn how to use it yet...its a bit more complicated than my little digital..but sure I can do it..I love taking pics..so decided to treat myself...
Cant wait to do my first post with cam, but want to practice first...lol..
Re my last post..the quilt has sold..what a lucky buyer..this was such a beautiful quilt....

Hi ladies.

I had to show this quilt to you all...this is a panel..which my friend Karen worked on and has designed the border herself..I have never seen one that has been finished so beautifully!!! There is a lot of machine quilting, as you can see by the close up..and needleturn in the kettle, and hand stitching in the finer details of the quilt...
I was just amazed when Karen bought this in to the store...how gorgeous is this????
It is for sale, so if anyone is interested please let me know..but I just had to show this off...(wish it were mine) but I lack the imagination used in this....
You know what? Karen has been quilting for around 2 years!!!! Some of us have it....some don't..ha ha..its gorgeous Karen and you should be very proud of your work! Thank you Karen for permission to show this quilt...

I came home from work the other day, and walked in my back door. When I looked down the paddock in front of our house, I saw what I thought were turkeys..on closer inpection..look what they were!!!!!!!!!!!!
The MOST beautiful pair of wedge tailed eagles you have ever seen..actually the first ones i have ever seen..we quite often see them in the sky..way up high..but this was sooooooo special I was in awe!!! They were so BIG! and their wingspan..wow!
I have decided after this event, I really do have to get a good camera..I was so excited..but unfortunately this is best we could get with cam we have..however, that said...HOW AWESOME ARE THEY???????
I appreciate they are not quilty, but they ARE special and feel very blessed to have seen them..Hope you enjoy them as much as I did!!

Not that I am over excited..after 2 weeks I still dont have my computer back..so tonite I have hi jacked Rays...lol..I need to post!!! Dont want you all to think I have dropped off the planet...(although I feel almost like that without my computer) ha ha...what did we do before our putors???? :)
lots of pics but I have heaps to catch up on...

Look what came into store today...Lumiere De Noel, this is the most gorgeous fabric ever..hmmm do I say that about all the fabrics..??? Nah surely not...hmmm maybe I do?
Best part? $20.95 per metre...

I had to show off Mrs Perkins designed by Melly and Me..she is so cute..She has pride of place in the store!! Peering out from the pattern stand. Mrs Perkins is available in kit form for $29.95 and the pattern for $14.80 plus p&h

Over the weekend, it poured...and poured..so I made a bag! Love it Love it..this is designed by Melly and Me, pattern available on website..and is called Raspberry Ripple, think I might rename mine, chocolate ripple? you think?

Last but not least, some of you may have heard of Texture Magic, some may not. The bag pattern is available for $17 and if you see the bottom of the bags, you will see that they are textured. The brights one has been stippled and the japanese one has been cross hatched. Easy to use, this is fun and fantastic..sew onto the back of your fabric, with or without batting, I use batting for the bags for strength..when sewn on, you then apply steam and it shrinks up to 30%..!!! Magic..creates great texture for little girls halter tops, bags, quilts , endless possibilities.
$29.95 per metre, $15 half metre and $7.50 per fat quarter. 47" wide.

Even though I have been absent, I have still enjoyed all blogs girls...so thanks for the great reads..Hopefully, wont be long and I will be back with my little black laptop!!!

Sewing Day!!

Yesterday was great! Cant say much more than that! Christine had organised another wonderful sewing day in Evandale for the ladies. After a frosty start..the ladies started arriving at 9.30..keen...ha ha
Marg Low, Libby Richardson, and Rhonda from Blue Willow were tutoring..and the ladies had a great time...If there are mistakes here, its because my putor is about to die..it has to go to computor hospital tomorrow..:(

Ray and I set up on Friday night, in readiness for the girls on Saturday...its always such a great day and Christine is to be commended on the job well done..oh and her team of course wonderful food..wonderful friends cant get better than that can one?

I though I would share some pics...Libby said..suppose you are going to blog this??? I am like........well yeah.....of course!! ( i do have to learn not to stand beside skinny ppl for photos though...
Tony, Libby, Me, Christine, and Marg..........lol..Now to tackle Remember When,, her new BOM..going to try..dont know if I am good enough stitcher..but hey..gotta learn somehow I guess...

Well, all back from Melbourne and Sydney...what a great weekend we had...I went because my step daughter from 25 years ago found me online.......wow..what a mass of emotions!! Should I go? Should I stay? Will we take up where we left off? She was but a child? What if its awkward...Well it was NONE of that...
Does anyone have ANY idea how wonderful it was to renew our relationship??? I am so proud of her and her family..I hope we never EVER lose touch again...Thank you so much Desi, for making my life more complete!!! I have two gorgeous daughters again....lol oh and kinda a step grandson...can I say that? how cool is that??? and he is soooooooooooooooooo cuteeeeeeeee!!!!Photos to come!!

Whew! Another week down!

What a busy busy week last week was!!! I was amazed..of course I am not complaining, it was just funny on a couple of occasions, being only me, the ladies were having a laugh at me trying to keep up...or catch up...It was funny I have to admit. But that said, it WAS fun, and we had a lot of laughs instore.
The bag above is a Threadbare Creations design, but I used the new Lesa Chandler range of Australian Flowers Fabrics called Under the Australian Sun, and omitted the pieced centre and replaced it with the waratah motif..looks nice doesnt it?
These are available as a kit for $55..email me if you are interested.

The rose, is a gift from my friend Sarah...how sweet was that? Thank you so much Sarah, sometimes the little things mean a lot!

On Saturday we had Jenny and her friends come for morning tea..They did insist on bringing their own..lol..which was nice, love home cooked goodies dont you? Thanks for the visit ladies, it was lovely to see you all!

I am off to Wolongong on Thursday til Monday with my daughter Laurissa. I am so looking forward to this trip..will hope to share with you all when I return.

New Quilt

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to have Rose Johnston (Threadbare Creations) and Jules visit me..havent seen Jules in ages..was lovely to have them stop by for a cuppa...not so long next time Jules...we all miss your blog, but was lovely to see you !!!

Here is my latest quilt using the Little Hot Rod fabrics...... I love this range..there are not enough ranges for boys ..anyway,,,saw this range and it was so nice to make a simple quilt..and enjoy making it. I quilted it on the frame..(which still terrifys me I might add) but it worked and I had fun with it. You have no idea how nice it is to actually achieve a finish..FINALLY!! lol Also , I have been well enough to be back on the pushie this week..so thought this sunrise was nice the other morning...have to share of course!! Oh yeah, and Sarah bought me a wonderful surprise the other morning..I will share with you next blog..thank you Sarah..was a lovley thought...Y'all will have to wait and see that one..

Australias Biggest Morning Tea

Today instore, we held our "Australias Biggest Morning Tea" for the Cancer Council.
We had heaps of fun, and what was even better....we outdid last years total, by $70 !!!! This year we raised $475!!! Thank you all so much for your participation, help and donations, how great is that?
Not to mention, we had sooooooo much food....nothing better than having a bunch of nice ppl calling in for morning tea which lasts all day!!! lol
Again, thanks to one and all..next year..we will aim for $600...Some piccies above of our day in Calico Crossroads!!

Finally! My range of Judie Rothermel fabrics have arrived!!!! The Civil War Tribute Collection is jussssssssssttttttt beeeeeeaaaauuuuuutifullllllllll!!
Well worth the wait I think..but then I am a reproduction nut..I just love them. Please go to the shopping site here for the full range available..At $22.00 per metre they are a reasonable price, and the quality of the fabric is great.
I have been waiting for these since Feb, so I am very excited to finally get them instore..

Weekend In Queenstown

Project Queenstown Heritage and Arts Festival was held this weekend in Queenstown on the west coast of Tasmania. I took the shop down and participated in the Market Day, main street..
Pauline no 2 and I set off yesterday and had a leisurey trip down, stopping at Burnie Spotlight ,, which absolutely puts the Lonnie one to shame..and then we proceeded to mosey our way down the coast, stopping at little lagoons and lake Prismoll on the way.
We had a great time, and arrived in Queenstown approx 4pm.
A great night out was had with some friends, and up early Sunday to set up our stall.
It was a glorious day, sun was shining, and lots of people were about..We left Queenstown at 1.30pm and drove at our leisure all over the place, in little roads, down to Murchison Dam, lol and got home at 6.30. I am sooooooooo relaxed its not funny..was like a weeks holiday for me..Thought I would share a couple of pics with you, and will share some more during the week...Have a great week all.

A lovely surpise arrived in store on Friday..the new range of fabrics..designed by Leesa Chandler. These fabrics ladies, are the most beautiful range of Australian flora with a japanese influence!! Please visit my store to see the full range...in gorgeous blacks, deep browns, and blues..This to me, is the most impressive range I have had in a long time, of course I do happen to be partial to japanese fabrics as well as reproductions. I have posted a pic of just one of these here to tempt you....:)

Workshop

Remember last post, I was telling you about the workshop we had? well, here are some of the results of that workshop. Above are four of the eight quilts the ladies made..dont they look great? All these ladies are very beginners and so I think they have done a great job..Next week the quilting process begins..

I am finding life a little boring at present..as I am on a rejuvenation diet for my ross river..ugh..I am not a huge fruit eater, but this week has changed that..not necessarily forever though..I dont like it much..but have to say I think it is working because this week I have felt really well. My body is screeching at me all the time.."hey where are the fats, the salts, the bread, the potatoes, the sauces, and most of all where is the beer????"" ha ha..(I do like a tipple)

Ah well, I feel much better so I wont complain as yet. The shop has been very busy with heaps of new products coming into store. That is keeping me busy trying to put them on the website.

I will show the other ladies and their tops as they finish them . They are a great group and we have a lot of fun..

New Week

Hi Ladies,
Last monday we had a workshop..more of a fun day I guess you would call it...the ladies made a stack and slash..it was great..loads of laughs. A little frustration..but that goes with quilting at times doesnt it? ha ha Above are some of the ladies with sewing machines cranking....and crank they did..:)
It was very enjoyable and all came away with an almost finished quilt top. This Monday the ladies are coming back to add their borders so another fun day to be had tomorrow.

On Saturday I went to a friendship day at Spreyton, for the Devon Quilters. There were a lot of ladies and again a fun happy day. Dont you just love it when its a great day..the friendships you make, the time you have.....Tassie bloggers, do you recognise anyone in the photo?

I have added some new fabrics to the website, Butterfly Garden by Moda..which is what will be used in Pops Garden. Gorgeous fabrics! Also a lot of new gift lines are now in, and will be on the website the next few days. Oh and the spider web? I spotted it the other morning from my kitchen sink..thought it looked nice with the sun shining thru it..

I have finished my precious things bag, from Leannes House. I love this little bag and needle case..The fabrics I have used are Garden Party, a beautiful soft range from moda. I have this kit available for $39.95. Heaps of patterns available on my shop webstite.

I have recieved into store Return to Romance a pretty flannel range, which I am hoping to put on the website later this evening.
Also Butterfly Garden by moda has arrived and its gorgeous..of course I love these country colours...

My Civil War fabrics are yet to arrive..which is a little disappointing, thought they would be here by now..how exciting will it be when they finally do arrive....

I took the river pic this morning when I was garage saling near my home..this is Gravelly Beach, Tasmania, and although all looked very serene in this pic, this afternoon the power boats were racing. It was a gorgeous morning, and there is something special about the river at that time I think.

Pops Garden is in the latest Creating Country Threads, and is going well. Orders are coming in..However, I cannot do the same colours as I have done, I have totally sold out of the fabrics and they are no longer available..I knew it would be a hit, but its gone incredibly well..I can do any colour scheme you wish, and will be doing the remainder in country colours. Been ages!

I am sorry once again for my lack of posts ladies. I do still read all your blogs, but that is about my limit right now. You see, some lousy sneaky little mozzie, snuk up on me bit me and proceeded to give me ross river fever/virus..A NON contagious virus carried by the mozzie, and makes one feel pretty lethargic, hence I get home from work, fall into my chair, and sleep. I will catch up, but please be patient with me, this has been known to take a while.

I would like to thank all ladies that advised on the yo yo quilt..I am still undecided, but will leave it up to mum and her friend, I will do whatever they want me to do in the best interest of the quilt..lots of great fabrics in it..

Anyhoo, on this post I thought I would share with you some of the new ladies.. learning to quilt. They are a great bunch and a joy to teach..we are having a lot of fun. The second pic is some of the ladies from our group "In Stitches Quilters" working on a charity quilt.

Kerry Swain is returning to Tassie!!!! Yay!! In Sept Kerry is coming back, so if anyone is interested please email me and let me know..Cant wait...Will send out more info as it gets closer.
